Re: Spam Bucket! (pony related)
Nice overkill, it practically pierced through that mouse with its mandibles.
My turn!
My turn!
I reckon that people are batshit scared of spiders is because of the lethal venom. That, combined with their speed can make your imagination run wild.
But know that only FEW species of them all are dangerous to human health. Many of them still can inject venom into you that can't kill you much, but has sometimes other "interesting" effects. The key is to recognize the most common venomous species, know what motivates arachnids to bite and how you should behave when dealing with them.
Also it might interest you that Black Widow - imo the most recognized venomous spider that is dangerous to humans - is slowly replaced by its less-poisonous, non-native cousin in California.
As for their speed - spiders can be loosely divided into
- those that move fast at any time. They are more sleek, have smaller abdomens and much longer legs (e.g. huntsman spider),
- and those that move slowly when idling and not attacking prey, but can still kick it when hunting or scared. They usually have short and thick legs, large abdomens and have the whole body covered in hair that helps them sense their surroundings (e.g. tarantulas). Because of these traits, "slower" spiders are more popular as pets.
And the most important note: afaik none of the common spiders living in European households and gardens can threaten human lives - only some of them can still bite, yes, but on rare occasions when provoked. Our clans are safe.
I got interested about them because my mom has arachnophoby and it got me thinkng why exactly people are afraid of spiders and what are the chances that those fears come true. Thus I gained some wits about them. I'm not an expert in this - therefore, if you want to know more, I encourage to get your own experience.
You're welcome

It's nothing to do with venom with me. I love sneks and they are a hell of a lot more deadly than spiddas. I just get freaked out with things that have more than 4 legs.

I remember one story in my childhood.
Maybe 6-8 years old, I was in my room playing with lego or some kind of chinese shitty toys. Then suddenly I felt some tickle on my left arm. Medium size (brown-like color) spider was trying to climb up my arm. My reaction? "HEY! How rude climbing up on others". And I put my arm on ground so he jumped off. He then ran somewhere away from me. Never seen him again.
Never been afraid of any kind of animals. I only hate high heights.
